Yr 11 Outdoor Education - Rock Climbing Camp at Long Beach

Miss T. Ward, Outdoor Education —

Year 11 Outdoor Ed recently completed their rock climbing unit with a two day camp at Port Chalmers and Long Beach.

This was an opportunity to further develop their climbing skills, take on personal challenges and demonstrate safety behaviours in the applied setting. Long Beach is a wonderful resource close to Dunedin and students really made the most of this experience. Students grew in confidence and developed a range of climbing techniques that enabled them to climb higher and more difficult climbs. They can feel proud of their achievements. As part of the camping Unit Standard students were required to plan, buy and cook their own food for camp. Food groups all cooked a wide range of delicious meals that met the nutritional guidelines and energy needed for the days activities. A big thanks to Miss Ward and Miss Young who organised the trip and spent the night out at Long Beach with us. Also thank you to Teagan and Efiq who were great instructors and to all the Outdoor Ed girls for making it such a good time!
