Friends First - Stronger Together

Cheree Henderson —

Last Friday, our Year 9 students joined forces with their peers from Otago Boys’ High School for a day focused on connection and community.

Transitioning into high school is a significant milestone, and this event provided a perfect opportunity for our students to bridge the gap between their past and their future. For many, it was a chance to reconnect with old friends from their intermediate years, while for others, it was the beginning of brand-new friendships that will support them throughout their secondary school journey.

The day’s success was largely thanks to the leadership of the Prefects and Peer Support students from each school. These senior leaders stepped up to facilitate a variety of team-building challenges designed to test:

  • Communication: Learning to listen and lead effectively.

  • Problem Solving: Working through physical and mental hurdles as a unit.

  • Teamwork: Understanding that we achieve more when we work together.

A huge thank you to the staff and senior students who coordinated the logistics, and to the Year 9s for bringing such a positive and enthusiastic attitude to the park. It was a fantastic day of fun and foundation-building!
