Introducing our Head Prefect

Phoebe Ashdown, Head Prefect —

Phoebe Ashdown

Kia ora to the wonderful Otago Girls community! My name is Phoebe Ashdown and it is such a pleasure to be Head Prefect for 2026, I truly cannot express how much this means to represent my incredible year level and this school. If I could leave this year with only the knowledge that I helped bring joy, inspiration, and companionship to those around me, it would be a year well spent.

I hope telling you all a little about myself will help break the ice, and you can feel comfortable coming to me for a chat whenever, about whatever!

In true Legally Blonde fashion, I love debating and anything law and politics. I’ve had the privilege of exercising my passion for human rights and advocacy through our school Amnesty International branch, and it has opened so many doors for me! Especially last year with my opportunity to represent the Dunedin electorate in Youth Parliament in Wellington. I’m so grateful to be student Board representative this year, my knowledge of governance has already benefitted so much. I also love art! Pop a brush, a camera, or a violin in my hands and I’m sorted for the day, and growing up rurally definitely promoted a love for books that has carried through my teenage years. I truly owe my mum, however, for my constant itch to get into our backyard and explore the beautiful mountains and lakes, so if I’m not studying for the next exam I love to be off in a tent or a Macpac jacket.

Me and Emily have such a great prefect team behind us for every step of the way on this crazy, final journey. There are so many awesome events planned, so strap in for one exciting ride. I look forward to meeting more of you in the coming months!
