Basketball Year 9A

Mr K Cassidy, TIC 9A Basketball —

Y9 A-Team beat the Bayfield Junior Girls 49 - 27 in the Junior B Grade Finals. It was a scrappy game and close to begin with, but once the team got warmed up the lead kept growing and growing. At times it was scrappy, but I'm proud of the way the team kept their composure and used their frustrations to fuel their dominance. The team played exceptionally well and completed an undefeated season. There were many standout players and lots of growth over the season. A big congratulations to Bella Smith who put her body on the line every game to lead the team to every single win. I think she nearly had as many tie-balls and she did points. A testament to her hustle and dedication to the team. Kymorah-Lee Taiala and Georgia Bennet played terrifically on both ends of the court and were a large reason the lead was as large as it was. Paige Hughes and Madison Buckingham consistently worked hard all game making sure they were putting the ball in the hoop or passing it to someone who could. Ellie Cowan, Sage Taggart and Sapphire Hudson really stepped up their game on defence, making stops, causing turnovers and keeping the Bayfield flustered. I was really impressed with the efforts of Caoihme Williams, Tayla Fahey and Dylan Sudol who did everything they could to make the most of the opportunities and again, putting the ball in the hoop. A great effort all around.A big thank you to Assistant Coach - Asha Robinson who was a great leader and role model for the team. We were both extremely proud of the team's efforts and increasing competitive spirit tonight and over the course of the season. We spent a lot of time learning how to play like athletes, and think like athletes. A big thanks to all the supporters who have come along to the games. It makes a big difference for the students and really shows that the team was force to be reckoned with.
