Weekly Maths Challenge!
Hope you had a blast tackling last week’s maths puzzles around the dinner table! Here are this week’s questions to put your skills to the test.
1. The Clock Watcher
If a digital clock shows the time 12:21, it is a "palindrome" (it reads the same forwards and backwards). What is the very next time after 12:21 that will also be a palindrome?
2. The Sock Drawer Dilemma
You have a drawer full of loose socks: 10 individual blue socks and 10 individual black socks. If you are getting dressed in the dark, what is the minimum number of socks you must take out to be 100% certain you have a matching pair?
3. The Perimeter Pivot
A square has a side length of 4cm. If you double the length of each side, by how many times does the area of the square increase?
4. The Handshake Mystery
There are five people in a room. If everyone shakes hands with everyone else exactly once, how many handshakes take place in total?
5. The Grand Total
Without using a calculator, what is the sum of all the numbers from 1 to 10?
(Hint: Try pairing the numbers: 1 + 10, 2 + 9...)
