Year 9 Camp - 26 February to 1 March

Ms J. Nielson, Year 9 Orientation —

Our orientation programme for Year 9 will conclude with an overnight camp which will be held at Tirohanga Camp at Mosgiel.

The purpose of the camp is to provide further opportunity for the development of friendships between the girls and to build on the Peer Support programme with the Year 13 students acting as mentors for the Year 9 girls.

The Camp will also provide an introduction to our outdoor education programme. The girls will learn how to put up tents, master confidence courses and learn some basic outdoor safety. They will also enjoy a day’s walk at Outram Glen.

The cost of the camp is $75, which covers the cost of bus transport, accommodation, food and the services of Malcam Trust. The payment is due at school by Friday 22 February and all cheques should be made payable to Otago Girls’ High School. All forms and money should be taken to the School Office in a clearly named and sealed envelope.

The girls will bring home more detailed information and a gear list. All girls must have polypropylene layers, a raincoat, warm hat and suitable shoes for a day walk. These items will be checked by the liaison teacher prior to camp. Please note that due to students with allergies, we require the camp to be nut free. Please ensure that all home-baking is nut free. Girls with specific dietary requirements should bring their own home baking that meets their own dietary needs.

Financial assistance for the camp fee is available if required. If you need financial assistance, we ask that you contact Mrs Crowe, the school Guidance Counsellor directly, phone 471 9729. Please contact Ms Nielson for any other queries.
