Acting Principal's Report

Mr J. Murley, Deputy Principal —

As we move towards the end of the term we have a very hectic schedule for the remaining weeks.

Year 12 Biology and Geography students travel to Borland Lodge, on the edge of Fiordland National Park, to conduct research that leads to credits for Level 2 NCEA. In addition to their studies they will also experience outdoor pursuits such as caving, kayaking and abseiling. A smaller group of year 12 students will spend the week at Sidey Lodge in Waikouaiti also experiencing a range of outdoor pursuits.

We have a number of sports teams competing in local, regional and national tournaments. Our athletes are competing in the South Island Championships in Timaru, waterpolo players are competing in Invercargill, sailors racing in Dunedin, rowers going to Lake Ruataniwha and volleyballers and canoe polo players both travelling to Palmerston North for National Championships.

The Senior production students along with counterparts from OBHS are rehearsing regularly in preparation for their production of “Popstars” to be held from 19 to 22 May.

We do appreciate the support of parents and the community in enabling these students to participate in such a wide range of activities. I also commend the staff for their willingness to contribute.

We are looking forward to hosting Dame Malvina Major and Dame Silvia Cartwright for the opening of our refurbished Music Suite on Friday 15 April at 2.15pm. Parents are welcome to attend the opening.

Students are being asked to select clubs for Term 2. We have altered our organisation of clubs from two eight week modules to one ten week module. This is an ideal opportunity for girls to “have a go” at something new or different for them.

Year 9 parents will have had access to interim reports over the last week and the senior school will receive fuller reports several weeks into Term 2. Should you have any concerns or questions about your daughter’s academic progress please do not hesitate to contact us.
