Sports Awards Evening 2018

Sports Awards

Gemma Millar, Sports Prefect —

On 20 September the annual Otago Girls' Sports Awards took place. Many talented and hard working athletes were awarded Blues, outstanding achievements, New Zealand Blues and many other awards. Massive congratulations to the girls that received awards.

Our guest speaker for this year was our own Kelly Brazier. Kelly attended Otago Girls’ High School from 2003 to 2007. Kelly is known for her international success as a Black Fern and Black Fern 7’s player. She is a double World Champion, Olympic Silver medallist and Commonwealth Gold medallist. Kelly talked to us about the hard work that is needed to be a professional athlete as well as telling us about the opportunities that sport had given her and what she had learnt from sport. She took us through a timeline of her rugby career that started when she was at Otago Girls’ at the age of 14, this was backed up with an amazing video that showed some of the highlights of her career so far.

Overall the night was full of success, talent and inspiration. The Sports Awards evening would not have been possible without Mr. Trickey and Ms. Hokianga and all their work behind the scenes. So again another massive thank you to these two wonderful people.
