GirlBoss

Ms A Brown, Business Studies —

On Thursday 11 February Melitiana White, Mariah Taungapeau, Aisha Rizwan and Sarah Yuhoi attended the GirlBoss Workshop at Otago Museum. Our students had the opportunity to learn and explore the impact they can have in the field of STEAM. The facilitator was GirlBoss founder and CEO Alexia Hilbertidou.

An interesting fact Mariah picked up was that there are more male CEO’s named John and David than all of the female CEO’s in the world! Meli said one of the activities was searching for the word "boss" which returned images of men in suits. She also said "they talked about how harmful that would be with these standards and the young women who would grow up with these images. The workshop was more focused on building our own confidence than telling us what we should be doing, and that came as a massive relief. So, by the end of the workshop, Alexia had taught us to always be ambitious, always believe in ourselves and that the one with the most power is the one with the most hope".

Aisha mentioned "they felt very honoured and we left with a new mindset and goals" and Sarah recommends attending a GirlBoss seminar.
