Inclusion and Belonging

We are pleased to be able to present our new Code of Conduct around Inclusion and Belonging. This was developed by some students in Year 11 last year and reflects the values of respect and integrity in our school.

Code of Practice

· Our school is a safe place for all people. We acknowledge and respect all people.

· We model and encourage the use of inclusive language.

· We use visual material, texts, histories and contexts in learning that look at issues of inclusion.

· We are allies for others and provide opportunities for developing greater understanding of diverse perspectives and issues eg. in the I2I speaker series, Global Leadership Programme and Human Rights Social Studies research.

· We provide safe physical spaces for individuals and groups to be.

· We encourage diversity in leadership roles and promote opportunities for all ākonga.

· We provide professional learning and development workshops for staff around inclusion and diversity.

· We have robust protocols around confidentiality and show high levels of empathy and confidentiality in dealing with all students.

· We use PB4L and restorative practices to hold people accountable for behaviour. In doing so we always acknowledge people’s capacity to grow in understanding and empathy, and to change behaviours.

· We are respectful and mindful of people’s wishes regarding names and other student information. We have systems for accommodating all situations in this regard on Edge (Information Management System)

· We are mindful and proactive in promoting the teaching of all New Zealand history through the New Zealand Histories curriculum

· We have a strong focus on the wellbeing of each and every person in our school.
