Ski Trip 2020

Celia Wyatt, Laura Nelson and Jessie Penhey - Year 13 —

This year’s ski trip was yet another one to remember. We have attended all five ski trips during our time at school and this one was as fun and fabulous as all the rest.

We made a quick exit from school on Friday lunchtime to head up to Frankton to stay in our accommodation in Kelvin Heights. Saturday morning dawned with the promise of a bluebird day in the mountains. We were quickly herded into lessons and we ventured out onto the slopes. The first timers were challenged by the demands of balancing on skis, while the expert skiers enjoyed being taken on some challenging runs with their instructors. We skied at The Remarkables for two days and we all enjoyed the stunning views from atop the mountain.

Monday morning started with some disappointing news: Coronet Peak was closed for the day due to bad weather. Although disappointed, we were happy to get back to bed for an hour. The day was filled with a newspaper fashion challenge, a relaxing walk by Lake Wakatipu and a shopping expedition to K-Mart! A lot of snow fell overnight and so on Tuesday morning, the buses drove through a winter wonderland, to a snow covered Coronet Peak. We encountered whiteout conditions, but this did not deter us and we braved the elements to ski in powder. It was a lot of fun.

Over the past five years of participating in Ski Trip, we have had many great experiences including learning more skills not only with skiing/snowboarding on two different mountains, but we have had a great time with our friends. We are grateful to Miss Young for organising the ski trip each year and we have enjoyed the company of teachers who have given up their time to join us. Our advice to all students is to take up the opportunity of participating in the Ski Trip. It will be a decision you won’t regret!

Whoop whoop!
