Digital Detox Challenge

Mrs S. Porter, Assistant Principal —

Sunday July 1st. Can you go without your device for a whole day?

Below is New Zealander Doug Moore's plea to New Zealanders ‘to ditch likes and do what you love’.

Watch the promotional video below about Digital Detox Day 2018.

Gaining an awareness of how much time we spend on our devices and what we spend most of our time doing, is the first step to making some positive changes. There are a range of apps available that can help to draw our attention to our level of use. Owners of IOS devices can go to “Settings”, scroll down to “Battery”, “Battery Use” and see what percentage of their battery is used on which app or activity. There are also specific apps available from the Apple App Store such as Moment and Checky that let us know how many minutes a day we spend on our device or how many times we check our phone. Android users can also find similar apps in the Google App Store such as QualityTime, Breakfree and Phone Addict.

Powering off and spending time away from our devices enables us to rest and refresh our brains which can improve our overall wellbeing.

How about taking up Doug Moore’s challenge? Go device free for one day on Sunday July 1st. Replace your screen time with something else you love doing. Encourage your friends and family to do the same and enjoy the feeling you get from “powering off”.
