Aurora Energy Otago Science and Technology Fair

Mrs V Millar, HOD Science —

We are thrilled to share that Hannah Fleming (Year 12) has not only wowed us with her innovative Science Fair project on renewable energy but has also taken home multiple prestigious awards! Hannah used piezoelectricity to generate renewable energy by crafting a pressure plate with piezoelectric ceramic that produces voltage when compressed. By measuring this voltage with an oscilloscope, she showcased the enormous potential for sustainable energy solutions.

Hannah, who was the 2022 recipient of the OGHS Zayed Sustainability Scholarship, continues to shine in the field of sustainability. She has just won the Aurora Excellence in Energy Award, Bachelor of Information Technology Otago Polytechnic Award, Keith Dawber Alternative/Renewable Energy Award, University of Otago Office of Sustainability Tī Kōuka Award, and the Dodd-Walls Centre for Research Excellence Award!

It’s wonderful to see her carrying this theme through her Science Fair project and her recent entry into the Hokonui Fashion Awards. We are so incredibly proud of you, Hannah—congratulations on this outstanding achievement!
