Mathematics Competitions
Fuelled by their passion for numbers and problem solving, we have had a range of budding mathematicians enter various competitions throughout the year.
In Term One, students from Year 9 to 11 tackled the challenging Junior Mathematics Competition run by the University of Otago. We were very excited to have four students invited to take part in Round 2 of this competition; Lily Allum, Lily Barker, Hannah Fleming and Nikita Lu.
The following students received Merit and Distinction awards for their efforts.
Distinction - Lily Allum
Merit - Larisa Chu, Ridima Jain, Lily Barker, Kenzie Drake, Hannah Fleming, Nikita Lu.
Last Thursday nine very enthusiastic junior students competed in the Dunedin O’Mathlon event at the Edgar Centre. All teams had a lot of fun, ran hard and displayed positive attitudes and perseverance when faced with tricky maths problems.
Also this term, we had a record number of five teams take part in the Senior O’Mathlon at Logan Park. All participants enjoyed a fun evening and special mention to the team of Maya Satake, Laura Allison, Rata Williams and Jenn Sutherland who took home the award for best team name ‘The Plastics’.
Students have just recently sat the ICAS Mathematics Competition and we eagerly await the results from these young mathematicians.
