Introducing our Peer Support Prefects

Maddie Cuthill and Hannah Porter, Peer Support Prefects —

Maddie Cuthill and Hannah Porter

Kia Ora everyone! We’re Maddie and Hannah, and we are both very excited to be your Peer Support Prefects for 2026. A little bit about myself - Maddie, I thoroughly enjoy subjects like P.E and Outdoor Ed. I have also participated in various sports for Otago Girls' like Hockey, Volleyball, Netball and Multisport. I’m a very outdoorsy person, and outside of school, when I’m not working as a barista or playing sports, I enjoy playing the guitar, camping and spending time with my friends and family.

I’m Hannah, and I have been playing Football since I was 8 and water polo since Year 7. I am involved in these sports at OGHS, too. I am also an outdoorsy person, I enjoy tramping, camping and swimming and even better when it’s with my friends! I used to live overseas in Asia for 6 years of my life, leaving Dunedin when I was 4. I am very grateful for that experience because it taught me to be able to communicate in different ways when talking doesn't always work! Our role is to help ease the transition from intermediate to high school and help them connect to their classes and peers, but most importantly, welcome Year 9’s into the Otago Girls' School community and get them involved as much as we can.

The Peer Support team has already had an awesome start to the school year, having completed our training camp and led many activities. We are a friendly, welcoming and supportive group of girls who will always be happy to help the Year 9’s settle in. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be spending time in i-time sessions getting to know one another and building strong connections between our Year 9 and Year 13 students. We’ll also be continuing the Sister Programme, bringing together mixed groups of Year 13 and Year 9 students to help make the transition to high school feel a lot less scary and a lot more fun.
