We are heading into a busy time in preparation for parallel examinations for seniors in Week 8-9. These exams matter most because they show us what we need to work on or practise harder. They identify our strengths and weaknesses going forward into the actual NCEA examinations.
Year 10-13 students have their Learning Conferences on Thursday 27th August. These are an important connection with home and the most effective learning happens when home and school work together in unison, promoting the message that education and school are worth investing time and effort into - and really matter.
Confidence in any activity comes through preparation. Practice builds self-assurance. Daily habits matter more than a last day burst of work. Small habits make big change. Mistakes are proof that we are trying and learning. Nothing on a page achieves exactly that - nothing. There is power in the word ‘Yet’ and adding this one word - yet - turns a fixed mindset into a growing one. Good luck to all students for their studies over the rest of the term. Keeping up daily maths, reading and writing reinforces work in all subjects.
Please join us for a wonderful evening with the Arts Council Showcase on Tuesday at 6pm in the school hall. This is a fundraiser for the Arts and supports opportunities for students to reach the highest levels of performance and participation. The Arts are flourishing at Otago Girls’ High School and we welcome this opportunity to share them with you. Thanks to the teachers for giving their time and talents generously for these occasions. Equally there is a whole background team effort on lighting, sound, tech support and staging - as well as lugging gear, costumes and props around the school and other venues.
Enjoy the weekend.
