Sports News and Information

Ms C. Hokianga, Sports Co-ordinator —

So much has happened since we have come out of Level 3 and now gone into Level 2.

We are now able to start sports training and most of the winter sports have indicated start times for competition. All going well most of the winter sport competitions will start mid/end of June and then continue all of Term 3.

Sport New Zealand will be releasing guidelines for schools in the next couple of days. Their website address is sportnz.org.nz

Each of our winter sports codes will be having (or have already had) trials and be getting their teams together to organise training times. Some of our sports, including hockey and basketball, have given out newsletters to the students. If you have not seen these please ask your daughter.

A reminder to all that sports socks for rugby, football and hockey are purchased from the school at $15.00 a pair, and OGHS microfleece tops at $40.00. We also have OGHS navy blue sports socks at $11.00 a pair. Students please pay at the school office then pick up your purchase from the Sports Department in the Gym.

Uniform Amnesty:

Before we went into lock-down, summer sport ended and we did not have time to collect in uniforms and tracksuits. If you still have these at home please hand in your CLEAN uniforms to the Sports Department as soon as possible.

The Sports Department would like to encourage our students to please keep a daily check on the school notices and their OGHS email so that they are not missing important meetings and other notifications.

Edgar Centre:

For all events being held at Edgar Centre students, coaches and parents will be required to download the iDMe QR Code from https://idme.co.nz/

Sports Fees:

All students are expected to play at least one winter sport. We do not want financial hardship in the current financial climate to be a barrier to participation in sport. We will support students and families to achieve this. Please contact Ms Hokianga in this instance.
