Acting Principal's Report

Mrs B Davidson, Acting Principal —

Kia ora koutou

Greetings to all as we navigate our way through this latest and very sudden lockdown. I am hoping that you are all safe and well. We are hoping that we can return to lower lockdown levels and normality as soon as possible. Our thoughts are with the wider Auckland community as they go through the process of a longer lockdown and uncertainty.

School continues as normally as possible online and students are encouraged to connect on Google Classroom during their regular class times. We are incredibly impressed with the smooth transition our teachers and students have made to the online lockdown environment. Staff continue to meet regularly online to ensure everything is in place for students and to trouble-shoot any issues. We do not currently have any access to school at all but can make constructive suggestions about how to facilitate your child’s learning. This will be reviewed by the government today.

The date for accepting 2022 enrolments has been extended to midday on Thursday 26th August due to the lockdown. Please ensure any outstanding enrolments are emailed or completed online, through the school website, by this date.

As Term 3 progresses it is important to turn our attention to learning and to reflect on the goals students are setting for their future. Next week senior reports will be released online and these will contain valuable information for next steps to take to maximise progress for the rest of the year. We are hoping that our Student Learning Conferences can be held for all Year 10 to 13 students next week. It is essential that all students attend these at the allocated time and that parents and/or another significant adult come with the students to discuss progress and achievement as well as future goals and plans. This day is put aside to support student learning. Encourage your child to look ahead at their goals and how they will get there. It is important to get whānau involved in helping students plan subjects and career paths so that you can understand how best to support the students to get there.

Please check emails and our school Facebook page for continuing updates following government lockdown announcements. In the meantime encourage students to balance online work with plenty of fresh air and exercise. We look forward to being in touch with you shortly. Do not hesitate to contact deans, counsellors or members of the Senior Leadership Team should you need us. Contact details are on the school website.
