Volleyballers attend National Secondary School Volleyball Championships
The Senior Sirens volleyball team recently attended the National Secondary School Championships held in Palmerston North from 3 April 3 to 8 April. The tournament was attended by 171 teams from all over the country – 96 of these were girls teams.
OGHS was seeded 47th and in the Premier Division. We played a total of nine games (two per day) including games against Tikipunga, Hillcrest, Otumoetai, St Peters (twice), Aquinas, Whangarei Girls, One Tree Hill And Otahuhu. Of the nine games we won five and lost the others. At the end of the tournament we finished 7th in Division 3 (39th overall) which was a definite improvement on our 2015 placing but not enough to gain us promotion to the Honours Division for 2017. On the Saturday following the tournament a number of OGHS students attended age group trials for National team selection. Three girls – Maddy Campbell, Hannah Moore and Taylor Thorne have been chosen to attend a further camp in Porirua in late April. If selected in the NZ under 17 team they will travel to Florida later in the year. Good luck girls.
