Year 9 Wellbeing Day

Cheree Henderson —

On Thursday, March 5th, while our senior students were busy with Learning Conferences, our Year 9 cohort took over the campus for a dedicated Wellbeing Day. The day was designed to provide our newest students with a toolkit for navigating high school life, focusing on mental health, movement, and self-expression.

The morning kicked off in the hall before students dived into a variety of interactive workshops:

  • Mindset Matters: Our school counsellors, Mrs. Kara Tarapi and Mrs. Rosie Turner, led vital sessions on managing stress and navigating anxious feelings, providing students with practical strategies for resilience.

  • Energy and Expression: The gym was alive with energy as Willow from Fierce Entertainment led a high-energy dance workshop, proving that movement is one of the best ways to boost your mood.

  • Future Focus: With Ms. Penny Muir (OGHS School Counsellor), students got creative with Vision Boarding, taking the time to visualize their goals and aspirations for the year ahead.

  • Creative Calm: Ms. Ruth Evans hosted a relaxing art workshop, allowing students to slow down and find their "flow" through mindful creativity.

It was wonderful to see the Year 9s engaging so authentically with each other and our staff. This day was all about building a strong foundation of wellbeing that will support them throughout their journey here at OGHS.
