Spreading Easter Joy - A Cherished OGHS Tradition

Lily Schaumann, Community Services Prefect —

In honour of the approaching Easter, on Thursday the 10th of April six students and Mrs Henderson travelled to local rest homes to hand out Easter baskets to residents.

Easter baskets were created from a variety of Easter chocolates gifted by students in the previous week, as well as an assortment of notebooks, pens, soaps, and handmade flowers for the residents who could not eat the chocolate treats. We visited three resthomes: Leslie Groves, Glendale and Redroofs. We had a lovely time chatting with and connecting with the residents. It was wonderful to hear about their different lives and experiences. We were even able to connect with people who had connections to Otago Girls, such as ex-pupils, parents of children who have gone through the school, and even an ex-teacher.

The Easter baskets were greatly appreciated by the residents and brought a great deal of smiles and joy.

A particularly touching moment came when we received a lovely message from the wife of a resident, who shared how much it meant to her husband and how our visit had truly brightened his day.

Thank you to all the families who donated so generously — your support helped make this experience so memorable for everyone involved.
