YEAR 12 CAMP WEEK

Hanna Heine, 12WTAY —

Hello everybody, my name is Hanna and I’m from Germany. I spent last week together with some other International students on the Year 12 Outdoor Activities Camp based in Dunedin.

On Monday our first activity was Clip ‘n Climb. It was so much fun and for everyone of us a challenge. However we all survived and achieved success in the each of the challenges and laughed about it. In the afternoon we saw Dunedin’s beautiful Street Art. On the Street Art tour everyone, including Miss Young found something new that they had not seen before.

The next day we went on a day ride along the Otago Rail Trail. We biked more than 22 km from Hyde to Daisybank and return. It was a good ride and took us through a tunnel and across two viaducts. We were happy to sit inside the van when it started to rain at the end of our ride.

Wednesday was the first time for us to go to Sandfly Bay. We had a sunny day and the water looked amazing. After that we went to see some albatross at Tairoa Head. This was also a first experience for all of us.

In the morning on Thursday we departed for a day hike to Butler’s Peak. We walked up a mountain for a long time then had lunch at the top and the view was awesome. The way back didn’t take us long and on our drive home we all ate New Zealand ice cream, which is the best! I was so happy that it didn’t rain during the time we were walking.

Friday was the last day of our amazing week and we went to Orokonui Ecosanctuary. We had a lot of fun and learnt some new things about reptiles and the New Zealand native bush and birds. The tutor there is a little bit eccentric and made us role play to get us in touch with our environment.

My favorite activity this week was Clip’n Climb on the first day. It was a great start to a great week. Thank you to all the teachers that made this camp possible, and thanks to Miss Young for organising all of this.
