What are the Benefits of Exercise?
Exercise is beneficial for our health and wellbeing in a variety of ways. Below is a list of just some of the ways exercise /physical activity can improve our physical and mental health.
Exercise can:
· Assist in the development of healthy musculoskeletal tissues (i.e. bones, muscles and joints)
· Help develop a healthy cardiovascular system (i.e. heart and lungs)
· Improve neuromuscular awareness (i.e. coordination and movement control)
· Help maintain a healthy body weight
· Improve control over symptoms of anxiety and depression
· Can assist in the social development of young people by providing opportunities for self-expression, building self-confidence, social interaction and integration
· Promote other healthy behaviours for example avoidance of tobacco, alcohol and drug use, and demonstrate higher academic performance at school
