Celebrating Our Esports Legacy

Mr D Trickey, TIC Esports —

This week, we were thrilled to welcome back two remarkable alumni, Erika Stuart and Jenny de la Harpe, who visited our esports squad for a fun-filled gaming session. Erika, our first-ever esports captain and Blues recipient, and Jenny, both of whom were part of the pioneering "Originals" team, shared their experiences and insights with our current players.

The "Originals" were significant as they represented the first all-girls esports squad in the country, proudly competing at Kings High School. During their visit, we celebrated the upcoming graduation of Jordin Cherry, the last member of this trailblazing group. Jordin’s five-year commitment to esports has set a remarkable precedent for future students.

Erika is currently pursuing her studies in Game Design at Otago Polytechnic and has been engaging in exciting projects with local game design students. Meanwhile, Jenny is completing her first year of Computer Science and English at Otago University.

While we missed Gemma Gordon and Carinn Gaspar, who were unable to join us, we look forward to a full reunion of the "Originals" soon.

It’s inspiring to see how far our esports programme has come, and we’re proud of the legacy that these students have created. Thank you, Erika and Jenny, for sharing your journey with us!
