Celebrating Success at the Combined Otago Girls' and Otago Boys' High School’s Whānau Hui

Mac Te Ngahue, TIC Wairua Pūhou, Otago Girls' and Otago Boys' High Schools —

Kia ora koutou,

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent combined Whānau Hui held by Otago Girls' and Otago Boys' High Schools at Otago Girls' this Wednesday evening. This gathering was a celebration of the remarkable achievements of our students in Te Reo and Māori studies, reflecting our commitment to fostering a strong bi-cultural environment in our schools.

The hui was attended by students, whānau, and staff, all coming together to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work and dedication our students have shown in their studies. The event was a vibrant display of our shared culture, featuring a performance by Wairua Pūhou, the Ngā Manu Kōrero speech by Jade Wilson, and a showcase of other student work.

One of the highlights of the evening was the feedback session, where whānau and students had the opportunity to share their thoughts on what the schools are doing well and what improvements they would like to see. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the schools for their dedication to promoting Te Reo Māori and Māori cultural practices.

We are incredibly grateful for the feedback provided by our whānau and students. It is through these valuable insights that we can continue to grow and improve. Our commitment to Māori achievement and cultural celebration remains steadfast, and we look forward to implementing these suggestions to further enhance the educational experience for all our students.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who attended and contributed to the hui. Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive community that celebrates and honours our rich Māori heritage.

A huge mihi to Mrs Matthews, Whaea Joe and Mrs Parkinson who compiled the information and made sure the night ran smoothly.
