Answers to Frequently asked NCEA Questions

Ms K Dick, Assistant Principal —

NCEA FAQ #1

What do I do if I am ill on the day of my exam?

Talk to your school’s Principal’s Nominee (Miss Dunn) in the first instance. She will be able to advise you on the eligibility criteria, who to see to support your application, and provide you with an application form. Your Head of House will help you with the documentation but see Miss Dunn first.

Your teachers will provide a grade based on (or derived from) pre-existing authentic, standard-specific evidence produced during the year by the student (such as from parallel examinations or formal tests).

If, during the exam period, students are unwell with COVID-like symptoms they should follow the Ministry of Health guidelines. If this affects their attendance at an exam they need to let the school attendance officer know and gain appropriate evidence for a derived grade. This includes the paperwork from a medical practitioner about the COVID symptoms and/or notification of a COVID 19 test that covers that exam period.

NCEA FAQ #2

What happens if we go into Covid Levels 2 or 3 during the examination period?

Exams will operate at COVID Levels 1, 2, or 3. At all levels washing hands and use of hand sanitiser on entering the building is encouraged. Students can choose to wear a mask. At Level 3 the desks would be spaced further apart with fewer students per exam room.

NCEA FAQ # 3

What time do I have to be there on the day?

On the day of the exam, arrive at least 30 minutes before the exam starts to find out the location of the exam room arranged by the school.

If you arrive more than 30 minutes after the exam has started you will not be able to sit the exam or enter an exam room.
