STUDENT LEARNING CONFERENCES Tuesday 21 March

Cheree Henderson —

On Tuesday 21 March Student Learning Conferences will take place for all Year 10 -13 students. Please note that this date has changed from previous communications.

Year 9 students will be in a Peer Support programme and other activities while the conferences are taking place.

The purpose of the conferences is to enable students to take more responsibility for their own learning and to deepen the conversations that students, parents and teachers have around student learning.

All students in Years 10 -13 are assigned a teacher mentor who will monitor their achievement and progress through the year. It is envisaged that these teacher mentors will be a good point of contact for parents during the year and that ongoing discussions will take place around student well-being and achievement.

You will receive a 30 minute appointment for 21 March and later, for 24 August. It is an expectation that parents and/or significant members of the student’s whanau will attend both of these meetings with the student. The importance of attending these meetings is such that we will provide a letter for parents’ employers should there be a need to get time off work to attend the conference. Research shows that home-school partnerships focused on the importance of doing well at school have the greatest positive outcomes for the student.

In Term 2 we will run subject-based interviews as last year for all Year 9-13 students, to enable you to catch up with your daughter’s subject teachers and ask subject-specific questions. It is also possible to email any of your child’s teachers, or to request to meet with them, at any time during the year.

More information and appointment times for 21 March will follow. We look forward to meeting with you and your daughter.
