Glendhu Bay

Lina Fraser, Year 10 —

From hiking up Roys Peak to singing on the lake front, Glendhu Bay was the perfect opportunity for students to challenge themselves and step out of their comfort zone.

After a long drive up we could finally enjoy our first walk. Many of us enjoyed this route around Diamond Lake as it gave us a bit of everything - uphill, downhill, stairs, and flat ground. Then we got to chill out for the evening with chicken burgers for dinner and lots of games. I definitely think that Camouflage was a favourite followed by Black magic (if you knew the trick to it). The next morning we woke up nice and early ready to climb Roy's Peak. This walk definitely challenged me mentally and physically. Our longest and hardest walk with stunning views. Talking with people afterwards sounded like everyone was really happy with how they had gone personally, which was epic. To finish off the day we had a camp fire down on the lake front roasting marshmallows and having a karaoke session. We even created our own song using the events which had happened so far on camp. Definitely one of my highlights!. Wednesday started off as a chill day. We took a flat walk around the lake front battling with the wind, and arrived back to see that one of the tents had collapsed, and another on its way. After a mission of trying to get everyone's things out we re-pitched a spare tent, moved the teachers into cabins and shuffled groups around just before the rain set in for the rest of the evening. As much as the rain was annoying we had fun playing games including ‘guess the celebrity’ and ‘spoons.’ We also go to meet and play some games with Cromwell College students This was definitely a fun night, and a great way to meet new people.

The next day we were supposed to be going to Meadow Hut, but due to the weather we had to stay put. We decided to walk the Upper Clutha track, however when we arrived, and got dive bombed by a Falcon protecting their nests, we were out of there. She said she had never seen us run so fast! We ended up walking Dean's Bank track which included a beautiful lunch spot by the river and a section of the track which seemed to continue looping in and out of a pine forest. Many enjoyed the fun banter along the way, and we eventually made it to the end. A bonus was meeting up with the Albert Town crew afterwards, and going to Puzzling World. Camp definitely shared a lot of ups and downs, but I know for a fact that this will be a camp none will forget. We all grew closer and met new people. We now all share so many inside jokes which will never grow old. Definitely my favourite camp I've ever been on. A big thanks to Miss Ward, Mrs Cook, and Mr Trickey.
