Year 12 Outdoor Ed: Adventure, Challenge, and Skill-Building

Mr R Dowling, Outdoor Education —

It’s been a jam-packed and adventure-filled term for our Year 12 Outdoor Education students, and the photos say it all! From the mountains to the rivers, they’ve been testing their limits, building confidence, and developing real-world skills in the great outdoors.

Here’s a snapshot of what they’ve been up to so far:

Climbing – Indoor and outdoor climbing sessions have helped students push through their comfort zones while learning key safety skills and techniques.

Tramping at Trotters Gorge – A beautiful day out exploring native bush and rugged landscapes, with students learning navigation, teamwork, and environmental awareness.

Biking – Weekly biking has challenged endurance and built strength, preparing students for multi-day rides and improving trail confidence.

Borland Camp – A major highlight! Students climbed, hiked, and biked through stunning Fiordland terrain, putting skills into action in a remote setting and working together as a team.

Kayaking – With an eye on the Clutha River expedition in Term 3, students have been learning how to perform T-rolls and full kayak rolls, building critical water safety and paddling techniques.

Snorkelling – Still to come this term, snorkelling will round out a term of diverse and exciting water-based experiences.

We can’t wait to see what Term 3 brings!
