Junior Sportswoman of the year

Tessa Buschl, Year 13 —

On the 17 May, ten girls had the amazing opportunity to attend a talk by Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, a 2018 Olympic Medallist and winner of the Supreme Award and Junior Sportswoman of the year at the 2018 ASB Otago Sports Awards.

Held by Sport Otago, there was an informal interview with time for questions after. We all had a great time and learnt a lot about what it is like in the life of a professional snowboarder, what it takes to become a professional athlete, and lots of tips for how we could improve in our own respective fields. She talked about what her day would look like in the season and how different it is to her schedule in the off season. With her being only 19, she could relate to us and it was very interesting to learn how she managed her academic, social and sporting life.

Special thanks to Sport Otago and Ms Hokianga for giving us this opportunity, I know everyone enjoyed learning about an area of sport that was foreign to most of us.
