Year 13 Geography trip to Queenstown

Mrs B. Davidson, Assistant Principal —

Last week we travelled to Queenstown to study tourism development.

With 3.2 million visitors into Queenstown every year this proved to be very valuable in preparing us for the Tourism external paper which we will sit in November.

We stopped by the AJ Hackett Bungy for a look on our way to the Arrowtown Holiday Park where we stayed. We travelled into Queenstown and looked around the Central Business area and got a feel for the tourist evening atmosphere in the town.

On Wednesday we had an intensive morning with talks from the Queenstown Airport management, Police and Lakes District Museum, outlining the history of Tourism development and looking at the impacts of tourism development over time and space.

Wednesday afternoon saw us catch the Orbus sustainable public transport to and from Queenstown to complete a scavenger hunt of tourist activities and hotspots. We bussed back to Arrowtown to celebrate Daly’s birthday with a pizza dinner and cake.

On Thursday we were up early for the Gondola and Luge which was amazing fun surrounded by fresh snow, before travelling home with lots of good info for our upcoming exam. Thanks to Mrs Davidson and Ms Munro for a great trip.
