Understanding and support for twice-exceptional students
My name is Holly Gooch and I am a Master of Educational Psychology student who is keen to improve awareness, understanding and support for twice-exceptional students. That is, those students who experience learning difficulties as a result of specific learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or through being autistic, as well as having an intellectual, creative or cultural gift. As my applied research project I am working on designing a screening tool for senior secondary school students to help identify students that would benefit from having a full assessment by professionals to determine if they are twice-exceptional. This will help these students access the support and challenge they need at school that they may not be getting because their gifts mask their disability or vice versa.
Here are the key details:
Participants must be 16 to 18 years old, and have already been identified as twice-exceptional.
Participation will involve completing a questionnaire that takes 2 to 4 minutes.
As a thank you, participants are able to attend an online study skills session tailored to twice-exceptional students if they wish.
More information about the study can be found in this video: https://youtu.be/vsfM0yuuWyg or the information sheets attached to this email
