Bust that waste!
We were hugely lucky last week to have TWO talks from 'The No Waste Nomads' here on their nationwide Rubbish Trip.
The facts were sobering - a truckload of plastic being dumped in the ocean every minute, for example, as is the thought that every bit of plastic ever made still exists on our beautiful planet. But their practical examples (and passion) were uplifting. They have lived without a rubbish bin for a year, and another Kiwi couple have been rubbish-free since 2008. We can all make meaningful changes.
The first talk was at Kavanagh college, and some students and I attended that one. We then hosted a teachers' seminar at OGHS, so a few of our teachers were also able to attend. Here are some links with heaps of planet-enhancing tips:The Rubbish Trip http://therubbishtrip.co.nz/ , Hannah & Liam (the No Waste Gurus) are putting together a Zero waste shopping guide for the Dunedin region, which will hopefully be up very soon. Matthew Luxon and Waveney Warth have been rubbish free since 2008 http://www.rubbishfree.co.nz/index.php. Their site is full of NZ-relevant tips and tricks. These save money too!
