Kia ora koutou
Welcome to Yasuda High School from Hiroshima in Japan. Yasuda and Otago Girls’ have enjoyed a Sister School partnership for almost 30 years! August 6th is Hiroshima Day and this year commemorates the 80th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima in 1945. Tomorrow, Saturday, at 10am at the Otago Museum, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum will open a global exhibition to share the stories of the atomic bomb survivors, in a call for peace and global awareness for the abolition of nuclear weapons. I encourage students and families to visit the exhibition, and also to connect and share friendship with our visitors from Hiroshima - in our school for the next two weeks.
Thank you for Open Night. The school shone and you really pulled out all stops to show the wonderful community that is Otago Girls’ High School. The students were wonderful guides, subject specialists and helpers. Remember that enrolments close at 4pm on 21st August so remind sisters and friends of this and keep telling the OGs Good News stories for the rest of the year as many students make their decisions late. Entrance Scholarship applications are due next Thursday 7th August.
Nominations for election to our School Board close at 4pm on Wednesday 6th August. Please consider standing in the election if you have skills and experience to share and wish to help guide the school’s direction for the next three years. Voting in the election closes on Wednesday 10th September and further information and nomination forms are contained in this newsletter.
