Library Day 2022

Monique Patterson —

On Tuesday June the 21st, we held the 85th consecutive Otago Girls' High School Library Day.

Students and staff alike threw themselves into the costume theme of ‘Looking to the Stars’, inspired by Hiwa-i-te-rangi, the Matariki ‘Wishing Star’.

The Assembly was ably led by our Wonderful Library Prefect Janet Hollard.

The Guest Speaker was Angela Walker, author of Ideals Are Like Stars - a biography of the wonderful former OGHS student and Olympian Yvette Williams.

The interview was filmed in late May, and excellent questions were devised and asked by students Ocean Gollner, Keziah Summerfield, Georgia Hall, Lily Robertson and Layla Matahaere.

An extremely slick video of the interview was screened during the Assembly. This was filmed and edited by our OGHS Film Club and led by Mr. Miguel Herrera, Spanish teacher and film expert!

Congratulations to the winners of the Library Day competitions:

Colouring Competition: 1st - Kaida Rumble, 2nd - Maya Satake.

Runners Up: Ayla Biner-McGrath & Katie Rowe.

Guess the Book Character competition: 1st - Andrea Austin, 2nd - Jenny de la Harpe.

Runners Up: Elizabeth Hollard and Moxi Kitchingham.

To the School Board, PTSA, School Council, and every class, group and department who presented books and gave advice, time and generous financial support - this day could not have happened without you.

Our Library shelves are looking wonderful thanks to you all!
