Get2Go Challenge

Ms J. Nielson, Year 10 Dean —

Last term, eight enthusiastic Year 9 and 10 students enjoyed an adventure-filled day competing in the Otago and Southland Get2Go Challenge.

The Get2Go Challenge, organised by the Outdoor Pursuits Centre, is a combination of the Amazing Race, Treasure Island and Survivor, comprising of four competitive team challenges.

Our day’s adventure began with an early morning briefing at Logan Park, before heading off to mountain biking and orienteering in Redwood at Wakari Creek. The mountain biking challenge involved completing multiple circuits around Ross Loop within the hour. Battling steep hills and quick gear changes were the most demanding aspects of this challenge, while the orienteering event tested the team’s skills in navigation as they sought to find as many control posts as possible.

In the afternoon, the team headed to Macandrew Bay for team problem solving challenges and kayaking. Skills in communication and lateral thinking were tested, while in the kayaks, the girls quickly mastered the skills required to navigate a short course in the harbour.

Although our team did not place in the competition, a great day was had by all and I congratulate the girls for their high energy and teamwork. Thank you too, to Miss Dunn, for her support on the day.
