Year 13 Geography Trip to Queenstown

Mrs B Davidson, Deputy Principal —

Year 13 enjoyed a four-day field trip looking at Tourism Development in Queenstown. We visited Macraes Mine and the Kawarau Bungy on the way up, with Petra McNutt-Milne and Katie St Clair-Newman taking the jump! In the following days we stayed at the Lakeside YHA and visited the Lakes District Museum, Millbrook Resort, Skyline Gondola, Department of Conservation, Bob's Cove, Gibbston Valley Winery, KJet, Time Traveller and the Frankton Pizzeria! It was a fully-packed programme and we learned a lot about tourism planning, development and environmental considerations. The blossom, snow-capped mountains and sunshine were simply gorgeous. Big thanks to Mrs Fleury who stepped in to help take the trip at short notice. We wish Queenstown tourism businesses well for the coming months in a time of great uncertainty for them.
