Last week Year 11 Outdoor Education students completed their Kayaking unit with a day in the Otago Harbour, more specifically at Back Beach, Port Chalmers.

This was an opportunity for the students to demonstrate the skills they had learnt and practiced in an applied setting. They braved the cool waters in calm and intermittent sunny conditions, and persevered to conquer personal challenges often with smiles of satisfaction or at times relief on their faces. The students enjoyed the wide open space where they could demonstrate their paddling techniques and different rescue techniques including; wet exits, t- rescues, x -rescues and barrel rolls. A huge thanks to Tim Bartholomew and Andy Thompson for instructing the students on the day and providing a fun, safe learning environment. Congratulations to all the students on their amazing effort.
