Relay For Life

Harriet Miller and Ruby Stretch-Treweek, Public Relations Prefects —

On Saturday, the annual Otago Relay For Life was held at the University Clocktower to support and fundraise for the Cancer Society. The event managed to raise over $110,000 in Otago alone. Our prefect team participated and managed to fundraise over $4,000. The event was held from 6 pm on Saturday to 6 am on Sunday. Each team had to pick a theme for themselves. The OGHS team decided on an 80's theme and met the brief.

There was a great set-up on site with loads of fun events and food trucks. At 6:45 pm we all took part in a fun warm up run by BFT and were ready to start the 12 hour extravaganza.  At 12 am, there was a ceremony to honour those that are fighting or have fought cancer. This is where we participated in a lap of silence to honour those who lost their fight. Our head and deputy head prefect, Paige Milburn and Ella Hou, ran a super fun jump jam session at 2 am on the Edge stage. Ella Hou also took part in speed dating at 2:30 am finding her “perfect match”. Later on, at the 6 am closing ceremony, there was a prize giving where the OGHS prefect team pulled through and won the prize for the best-themed tent!

On behalf of the prefect team, we would all like to thank Mrs Porter, Miss Young, Mrs Beaman, Mrs Paterson, Ms Munro, Ms Joyce and Miss Ward for their help supporting us throughout the night. A big thank you to the parents that came along and supported us through the night - we couldn’t have done it without you all. Special shoutout to all those who donated and participated towards the worthy cause.
