Celebration 2020

Bridget Davidson, Deputy Principal, and Kathryn Dick, Assistant Principal. —

It doesn’t seem real but Celebration 2020 is upon us. This evening marks the beginning of the close of our school year festivities and we have the privilege of joining together as a school community at Knox Church on Tuesday evening,  3 November at 7 pm. We are so thankful to be joining together to sing and celebrate the life of Otago Girls’. Celebration is an annual event that celebrates the world of Otago Girls’ High School and has been on our traditional calendar since the 1950s. It combines music, mirth, and memories of our unusual year with traditional instrumental and choral items as well as some rock star items like the Year 13 Medley. The theme this year is “You and I” and centers on our friendships and relationships and the ability to be together when many people around the world are separated from each other due to our new life under Covid  19. The students who won the Speechfest at each year level will present some poignant readings on this theme.

We will be holding a rehearsal at Knox Church on Tuesday morning (3 November). Girls should be at the church by 8.45 am. They need to find their own way there and will be walked back to school at the completion of the rehearsal. An umbrella or navy blue jacket would be advisable if it is wet weather.

All students should wear full winter uniform including blazer and tights for the evening service. School jerseys or vests should not be worn particularly because it can be very warm.

Parents and friends of the school are very welcome to attend the Celebration Service. Please be aware that the service is very popular with the school community and that seating will be difficult to guarantee if you arrive after 6.45 pm. The service should finish at approximately 8.30 pm.
