Annual Celebration Service

Ms K Dick, Deputy Principal —

Otago Girls’ High School will be holding its annual Celebration Service in Knox Church on Tuesday Ist November commencing at 6pm.

It is great to be back at this venue that has strong links with our school. Its founding members were also the people instrumental in enabling public education for young women at Otago Girls’- a school that was the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere thanks to the leaders of Knox at the time.

This is a wonderful and memorable school event and I have noticed on recent school camps that students play (and sing) the Celebration songs from previous years. Students should advise employers early (today) if they need time off work for Celebration, Prizegiving (5th December) and/or the Year 13 Formal. All students are expected to attend and be seated at the church by 5:30pm this coming Tuesday evening.

We will be holding a rehearsal at Knox Church on Tuesday morning (1st November). Students should be at the church by 8.45am. They need to find their own way there and will be walking back to school at the completion of the rehearsal. An umbrella or navy blue jacket would be advisable if it is wet weather.

All students should wear full winter uniform including blazer and tights for the evening service. School jersey/vest should not be worn.

Parents and friends of the school are very welcome to attend Celebration Service. Please be aware that the service is very popular with the school community and that seating will be difficult to guarantee if you arrive after 5.15pm. At the close of the evening each student or family member gives a small gold coin donation to support the community. This year we wish to give to Presbyterian Support Otago to assist with their Christmas hampers. If you could send your young person along with a small donation, we would be most grateful. The service should finish at approximately 8:00pm.
