Latin Museum Trip

Miss C. Johnston, Latin Teacher —

On Friday 28 October both Latin classes visited the Otago Museum where the students translated Latin inscriptions on Roman coins, some of which were made during the reign of the emperor Trajan nearly 1900 years ago.

The students also explored some of the workrooms in the Museum. Here the girls met two of the Museum's conservators and learnt from them the techniques used to reconstruct ancient pottery. The students saw a vase in the process of being restored, then they used the conservators' techniques and materials to repair a broken dish.
