Stacey Pearce - Dunedin City Council Animal Services

For my Gateway work experience, I was placed with the DCC dog control officers. Everyone on the team was so friendly and made me feel so welcome! One fun thing we did was making up doggy packs for new dog owners. The main thing I learned was that the majority of the public doesn't really understand what the Dog Controllers role is. People assume that their dogs are taken away and put in kennels, but actually, they go out of their way to help people and keep dogs safe. They are not the bad guys that they have been made out to be, they are the good ones and are just doing their jobs for which they have specific legal requirements that must be followed. Overall I really enjoyed my time with them I would like to work with them again.
