As the announcements around NCEA settle, we are keeping an eye on the flow-on effects for students and the school.

Students currently in Year 9 will continue to receive secondary school learning under the current curriculum and will be assessed against NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3. Our students have great success and go on to many and varied great pathways under this system, including globally.

Students who are currently Year 8 will begin to receive new curriculum learning from 2026 and will be assessed under the new award and qualifications, outlined in the attachment below. Careful phasing will give teachers time to implement the new curriculum and new national qualifications. Our curriculum teams at Otago Girls’ High School are very well-versed in implementing change seamlessly and many teachers are national leaders in their specialist fields. I commend them on their commitment and competency in coping with many iterations of change in NCEA over this time.

This week at assembly I spoke about school uniform and its power to transcend cliques and groups and create belonging and an increased sense of self-worth and identity. Please support us to have your child dressed appropriately and professionally for school. With high expectations together, we all achieve much more.
