Speechfest

Mrs J Seward, HOD English —

Every year, the English Department hosts the OGHS Speechfest competition.

Each class selects a representative to deliver a speech to their peers and judges in the hopes of being crowned the year level's best speaker.

This year, we had 29 accomplished speakers take to the stage, with topics ranging from Quebec's Religious Neutrality Bill to Why Siblings Are The Greatest Pests. It was fantastic to see our young people use their voices to talk about serious issues in today's society or to entertain the audience. The judges were impressed with the high calibre of speeches.

For the first time, we held the Year 13 Speechfest competition in the evening, and were treated to three incredible valedictorian speeches which were insightful and honest, as well as an encore performance from our Year 11 and Year 12 winners. Paige Milburn and Sam Cuthill kept us entertained as MCs throughout the night with hilarious skits and terrible Dad jokes. This event is not to be missed so be sure to put it on your calendar for next year!

A huge thank you to all our speakers and to the English staff who judged the competitions throughout the day.

The winners were:

Year 9 - Ruby Lund

Year 10 - Lily Robertson

Year 11 - Rosie Falcous

Year 12 - Tessa Hinch

Year 13 - Glory Tioa
