Cultural Evening for Mothers and Daughters

Ms K Dick, Assistant Principal —

On behalf of the Former Refugee Cluster and the Amnesty International group, we warmly invite all our students and their mums to our Cultural Evening for Mothers and Daughters on Monday the 16 August at 5 pm. Earlier in the day we celebrate the close of Freedom Week with a festival of dance and music and these performances will be repeated at 5pm along with Mothers and Daughters from our Syrian and Afghan refugee communities from across Dunedin High Schools in our cluster. To support our Muslim families, and to keep with their tradition, we ask that this evening be a celebration of the cultural life of women. Be prepared to get your dancing shoes on and join us in learning the Dabka. Sometimes spelled Dabke, it combines a circle dance and line dancing and is widely performed at weddings and other joyous occasions.

We look forward to seeing you there.
