Introducing the Dunedin Climbing Club
My name is Tim Bartholomew. I am the owner/operator of Dunedin Climbing Ltd which runs rock climbing and abseiling trips for (mainly) schools in the Dunedin area.
Over the past four years that I have been running the business I have noticed a lack in opportunities for young people to further their passion for climbing and have dreamt that a climbing club in Dunedin would be hugely beneficial.
The time frame and structure of the club would be Wednesday nights from 6-8 at Logan Park climbing wall to develop the above skills and 3 days per term (in the weekends) to put these skills to the test on local outdoor rock. There would also be voluntary community service days where the club gets stuck in and cleans up local crags (climbing areas) for the benefit of the wider climbing community. I would also like to offer multi days climbing trips in the holidays to other areas in the South Island to be exposed to different rock and (hopefully) join up with other clubs to share knowledge and expand the climbing community, however this would be charged separately to the term costs. There will also be opportunities to attend and compete in the secondary school nationals and other competitions (it is now an official olympic sport)! The cost to join the club for Term 2 would be $155pp which includes 10 Wednesday night sessions and three day trips, which works out to $8pp/Wednesday and $25pp/day trip. With the generous support of Logan Park High School and the Otago division of the NZAC (NZ Alpine Club) I am able to keep the costs as low as possible to encourage students to join.
If you would like to join the club and be part of this exciting new venture please reply to tim@dunedinclimbing.co.nz with a completed copy of the attached participant information (I’m happy with electronic signatures).
