Relay for Life

Elsa Neuman, Community Service Prefect —

From 6 pm Saturday to 6 am on Sunday morning, a number of OGHS girls took part in the annual Relay for Life outside the University clock tower.

The event raises money for the Cancer Society, which helps those affected by cancer. The event rules were that each team had to have at least one person walking the 500m track by the clocktower, and we clocked up lots of kilometres, with some girls recording distances of over that of a marathon.  For 12 hours we walked, ran, chatted and reflected. The event had an amazing atmosphere, with bands of varying quality playing throughout the night, and a very moving candlelit vigil at midnight with some amazing speakers. It was such an amazing, successful event, with the OGHS Prefects team raising $1900 and the whole event raising over $100,000. A massive congratulations to all the girls involved. It was a great event!
