Handball

Ms A Lorange, TIC Handball —

Omea Fitzgerald, from 10MCG, participated in two handball games in Christchurch over the weekend for Otago against Canterbury. This was a mixed development game for young handball players. The second Senior Women South Island Shield game was won by Otago 29 to 26, leveling the series one all before the decider, which will be played in Waimate in October.

School Handball will start again in Term 4 and we are keen to get new players for both a social and a competitive team.

The Otago Shag teams (male, female and mixed) will also start their Beach Handball season at that time. They are keen for young players to join and give beach handball a go. Beach Handball will be an Olympic Sport in 2024 and remains relatively niche. New Zealand is hoping to qualify teams to the Olympics. It is a non-contact, and quite spectacular sport, which requires a fair bit of fitness to handle running on sand and making trick shots for maximum points. Training will take place at Tomahawk Beach on Thursday and Sunday evenings. Contact Ms Lorange if you want more information.
