BYOD 2019

Mrs M. Leonor, Network Systems Manager —

Need a new computer for the new school year?

Our recommended retailers have updated their offers. When visiting their retail shop make sure to mention that you are there to check their BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) offers for OGHS.

The password is: OGHS41Te.

 Retrieval Code is CMP-01320-S3S6

** our apologies we printed this code incorrectly in our last issue

The school’s recommended devices are:

  1. Chromebook - This is suitable for entry level, but may require a replacement to a Windows notebook or a Macbook in senior school for use in design rich subjects.

  2. Macbook

  3. Windows notebook - A Windows 10 is preferable, and upgrading an old computer’s Windows 7 operating system to a Windows 10 is encouraged. For security reasons lower versions of Windows is strongly advised against.

The iPad or any tablet is not recommended.

The minimum specification requirements are:

  1. 4GB of memory for a Windows notebook or a Macbook; 2GB of memory for a Chromebook

  2. At least 5 hours of battery life

  3. 10-inch screen size

  4. Anti-virus software for a Windows notebook and a Macbook - A free version can be opted for as long as it is setup to regularly install virus definition updates.

  5. Protective cover suitable for a backpack or a carry case, if carried separately

We are a Google school and, as such, the applications that students need are hosted in the cloud. Other than the anti-virus, no software is required for purchase. Students wanting to use any of the the Adobe Creative Cloud applications can purchase an annual license through the school at a very reasonable price.

This year we have seen several computers with a broken screen or damage caused by spilt liquid. Parents are urged to look at getting an accident insurance with the new computer or contacting their contents insurer to make sure that their children’s personal devices are included in the cover. The school’s insurance policy does not cover students’ personal property.
